Shoulder pain is one of the most frequent musculoskeletal complaints seen in both the general population and in clinical practice. Because the shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, it is also one of the most vulnerable to injury, overuse, and age-related changes. At All Care Physiotherapy, our experienced team is skilled in assessing and treating a wide range of shoulder conditions, helping clients return to work, sport, and daily life with confidence.
How Common is Shoulder Pain?
• Studies show that shoulder pain affects up to 26% of adults at any given time and is the third most common musculoskeletal complaint after back and neck pain.
• It is particularly prevalent in adults aged 40–65 years, but can affect all age groups depending on activity levels and occupation.
• Around 50% of people with shoulder pain continue to experience symptoms for more than 12 months without appropriate management—highlighting the importance of early and effective intervention.
Common Shoulder Conditions
Some of the most frequent causes of shoulder pain we see include:
• Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy/Tears – often due to overuse, repetitive lifting, or age-related degeneration.
• Shoulder Impingement Syndrome – where tendons are irritated as they pass through the shoulder joint space.
• Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis) – characterised by progressive stiffness and pain, most common in people aged 40–60 years.
• Shoulder Instability – may occur after dislocation or from hypermobility, common in younger athletes.
• Arthritis – gradual wear and tear of the shoulder joint, usually in older adults.
Causes and Risk Factors
• Repetitive overhead activities (e.g. sports like swimming or tennis, trades such as painting or carpentry).
• Poor posture or prolonged desk-based work.
• Sudden trauma (falls, heavy lifting, workplace injury).
• Age-related degeneration of tendons and joints.
• Underlying medical conditions (such as diabetes, which increases the risk of frozen shoulder).
Treatment Pathways
Early assessment and management is key to preventing long-term shoulder dysfunction. At All Care Physiotherapy, we follow evidence-based treatment pathways that may include:
• Comprehensive Assessment – including movement analysis, strength testing, and where appropriate, referral for imaging.
• Individualised Exercise Programs – to restore mobility, strengthen the rotator cuff and supporting muscles, and correct biomechanical issues.
• Manual Therapy – hands-on techniques to improve joint mobility, reduce muscle tightness, and relieve pain.
• Shockwave Therapy- to assist in tissue healing in chronic tendinopathies.
• Education and Activity Modification – helping you understand your condition and adapt daily tasks or training safely.
• Advanced Rehabilitation – return-to-sport or work-specific conditioning to prevent recurrence.

I’m incredibly grateful to All Care Physiotherapy, and in particular to Aiden, for the exceptional care I received. I came in with a very painful rotator cuff injury, and Aiden’s professional, compassionate, and knowledgeable approach made a real difference from day one. He took the time to understand the injury, tailored a treatment plan that was both effective and manageable, and helped me work through the pain with confidence. Thanks to his guidance, I experienced real relief and noticeable improvement far sooner than expected. The whole team at All Care were welcoming and supportive — a genuinely positive and reassuring environment. Highly recommended to anyone in need of quality physiotherapy with personal care and clinical expertise. Thank you, Aiden, and the All Care team.
