Shoulder pain is one of the most common issues we see in the clinic, and shoulder tendinopathy is a frequent cause. Whether it’s limiting your work, sport, or everyday activities, early and appropriate management can make a significant difference.
What Is Shoulder Tendinopathy?
Shoulder tendinopathy refers to irritation or degeneration of the rotator cuff tendons, most commonly the supraspinatus tendon. Rather than being a simple “inflammation,” tendinopathy involves changes to tendon structure that can reduce its ability to tolerate load.
Who Does It Affect?
Shoulder tendinopathy can affect:
·Active individuals and athletes (especially overhead sports)
·Manual workers or those with repetitive shoulder use
·Desk-based workers with prolonged poor posture
·Adults aged 30–60, though it can occur at any age
Common Symptoms
·Pain with lifting, reaching, or overhead movements
·Night pain or discomfort when lying on the affected shoulder
·Weakness or reduced shoulder strength
·Gradual onset of pain that worsens with activity
How Is Shoulder Tendinopathy Managed?
At All Care Physiotherapy, management is tailored to the individual and may include:
·Education around load management and activity modification
·Progressive strengthening and rehabilitation exercises
·Manual therapy to optimise shoulder movement
·Pain-relieving modalities where appropriate
One increasingly effective treatment we offer is Shockwave Therapy.
Shockwave Therapy: How Can It Help?
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that delivers high-energy acoustic waves to the affected tendon. These waves stimulate the body’s natural healing response and can be particularly effective for chronic or persistent tendinopathies.
Benefits of shockwave therapy include:
·Stimulating tendon healing and tissue regeneration
·Reducing pain and sensitivity
·Improving function and tolerance to load
·Supporting rehabilitation when progress has plateaued
Shockwave therapy works best when combined with a structured physiotherapy rehabilitation program — not as a standalone treatment.
Why Choose Shockwave Therapy at All Care Physiotherapy?
Our physiotherapists are trained in identifying when shockwave is appropriate and how to integrate it into a comprehensive rehab plan. We use it selectively and evidence-based, ensuring you receive the most effective care for long-term recovery — not just short-term pain relief.
Need Help With Shoulder Pain?
If shoulder pain is affecting your daily life, early assessment and targeted treatment can prevent it from becoming a long-term issue.
We’re here to help you move better, recover faster, and get back to doing what you enjoy.
