Vestibular Physiotherapy: Recent Client Experience

At All Care Physiotherapy, we love helping our clients recover from their vestibular conditions. We would love to share the recent experiences of some of our clients at the clinic.

Eliza, is a 60-year-old lovely lady who had been suffering from dizziness when turning her head which made her unsteady and scared of falling. She had been dealing with symptoms which involved a very quick “woosh” of dizziness whenever she turned her head and these feelings had been going on for 10 years.

Eliza was referred to All Care from a family member who had success with a similar condition at the practice.

Eliza reported that she was severely limited at home with needing help from her husband to cook, do the shopping and more importantly, she couldn’t complete her dance class moves properly any more due to her dizziness.

Eliza saw Jessica, our vestibular physiotherapist, who conducted several different tests using her specialised skills and infrared recording goggles. Together with Eliza’s medical history, Jessica found that Eliza had a unilateral vestibular hypofunction after experiencing vestibular neuronitis (inflammation of the vestibular nerve) 10 years ago.

Eliza was required to undergo a period of vestibular rehabilitation using specific exercises tailored to Eliza’s vestibular issue. The brain has an amazing ability to adapt, compensate and improve using these special vestibular exercises. Eliza attended the practice for 5 treatments and the results were life changing for her. Eliza was motivated to improve and was diligent with her exercises, and after 12 weeks of vestibular rehabilitation she was able to perform all the spins and moves in her dance class for the first time – without vertigo or losing balance!  Eliza returned to her normal home duties and dance classes with complete resolution of her symptoms and now has her life back.
