Welcome to 2026

Welcome to 2026, at All Care Physio we hope everyone has had a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. With the beginning of 2026, it’s the perfect time of year to get started with rejuvenated fitness goals and exercise related new year’s resolutions. Exercise and loading of the body is one of the most important things for the human body but currently over half of Australian adults aren’t meeting exercise requirements.

However, what’s just as important as exercising in general is exercising in the right way, as there are countless pathologies which can easily be caused by increasing load/ exercise too quickly.

  • Muscle strains – overstretch or “strain” of muscle fibers

  • Muscle tears – an acute rip in the muscle fibers, more severe than a strain

  • Tendinopathies – an irritation of the muscle to bone attachment area or tendon caused by repetitive overloading movement

  • Stress fractures – increased stress response in your bones due to atypical loading

All of the above always occur with a sharp increase in load that your body isn’t used to, and unfortunately for many this is from trying to turn things around and get into shape. It doesn’t matter if it’s weightlifting, running or hobby horsing, any increase to weight, distance, speed and even surface can contribute to overload injuries.

This is especially the case as we get older, with our body becoming less adaptable and taking longer to independently heal.

The key to avoiding this is appropriate exercises technique and gradual loading. This allows your body to progressively adapt to the load required and prevent injury. Generally, if you increase load by 10-15% per week you will avoid overload type injuries, but to get an expert opinion on all things exercise pay any of our experienced physios or exercise physiologists a visit.

If any of the above injuries sound like you, don’t worry. At All Care physiotherapy we are experienced in the treatment and rehab of the above issues. It doesn’t matter if you’ve done your back playing backyard cricket or fallen off the ladder taking down the Christmas lights, here you’ll get a through assessment and treatment of any issue you’ve got.
