As the festive season rolls in, so does the sunshine, celebrations, and endless social gatherings. Between beach trips, backyard cricket, and Christmas shopping, it’s easy to get caught up in the fun and forget to look after your body.
At All Care Physiotherapy, we want to help you enjoy the season to the fullest — without the aches, pains, or setbacks that can come with it. Here are our top five tips to help keep your body in tune this summer.
1. Keep Moving — Even When It’s Hot
When routines change over the holidays, it’s easy to let exercise slide. But regular movement helps maintain flexibility, strength, and energy — all essential for staying pain-free.
Try this: Take a walk early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler, or swap your gym session for a refreshing ocean swim. Even 20–30 minutes of light activity can make a big difference.
2. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
The Aussie summer heat can sneak up on you. Dehydration affects your energy levels, muscle performance, and recovery.
Pro tip: Keep a reusable water bottle handy and sip regularly throughout the day. If you’re enjoying a few festive drinks, balance them out with plenty of water.
3. Lift and Carry Smart
Between setting up outdoor furniture, carrying shopping bags, or packing the car for a holiday road trip, your back can take a beating if you’re not careful.
Tip: Bend your knees, keep the load close to your body, and avoid twisting when lifting. If something’s heavy, ask for a hand — prevention is better than rehab!
4. Look After Your Body During Travel
Long drives or flights can lead to stiffness and discomfort, especially through your back, hips, and neck.
Tip: Take regular breaks to stretch and move around. If you’re on a plane, stand up and walk the aisle when possible. A small rolled towel behind your lower back also helps maintain spinal support.
5. Don’t Miss Your Physiotherapy Appointments!
With a busy holiday calendar, it can be tempting to postpone your Physiotherapy sessions — but consistency is key to keeping your body performing at its best.
Remember: Staying on top of your treatment plan prevents setbacks and helps you enter the new year feeling strong, mobile, and pain-free.
Wishing You a Healthy, Happy Christmas
From all of us at All Care Physiotherapy, we wish you a wonderful festive season filled with health, happiness, and sunshine. Enjoy the celebrations, listen to your body, and keep moving well — we’ll see you in the new year!
